Introduction

This laboratory is at the forefront of particle astrophysics, focusing on three main research areas: the origin of cosmic rays, extreme astrophysical processes involving black holes and neutron stars, and primordial gravitational waves and cosmic inflation. We are dedicated to building and operating a space-ground integrated multi-messenger detection system to conduct cutting-edge scientific research using world-leading large-scale scientific facilities.

The laboratory relies on a well-structured research team and has led and participated in the construction and operation of several national large-scale astronomical projects. Through LHAASO, we have successfully opened a new window in ultra-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy, reshaping our understanding of the origin of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. Leveraging space-based detection platforms such as Insight-HXMT, GECAM, EP and SVOM, we have placed crucial constraints on extreme explosive phenomena like gamma-ray bursts and fast radio bursts, as well as on the physical processes related to black holes and neutron stars. The new method we proposed for quasar distance measurement has provided a new approach for cosmic geometric distance measurement.

Looking ahead, the laboratory remains committed to pursuing the forefront of science and technology by actively driving the development and construction of next-generation large-scale astronomical facilities. eXTP and HERD have now fully entered the engineering development phase. The LACT is under construction at the LHAASO site. The AliCPT has achieved first light in 2025,and the HUNT is actively advancing its underwater experiments.

The laboratory aims to become a world-class particle astrophysics research institution with outstanding innovation capabilities,a complete talent pipeline, broad academic influence, and leading key technologies. We strive to undertake major national scientific and technological tasks and to continuously contribute to the development of Chian in this field.
