摘要/Abstract:
The Major Atmospheric Gamma Imaging Cherenkov (MAGIC) system consists of two 17-meter imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs) located on the Canary Island of La Palma, primarily designed for gamma-ray astronomy. While there have been significant achievements in gamma-ray astronomy, we are also exploring the possibility of using it for cosmic-ray studies, such as Cosmic-ray electrons and positrons (CREs).
CREs of TeV energies suffer severe energy loss during propagation due to inverse Compton scattering and synchrotron radiation process; therefore, they are instrumental in constraining the local cosmic-ray sources in the Galaxy. The ability to measure CREs by ground-based IACTs has been demonstrated. In this talk, the methods optimized for detecting and studying CREs using MAGIC, as well as the recently measured spectrum, will be presented.
个人简介/Bibliography:
Yating Chai is a postdoctoral researcher at Institute for Cosmic Ray Research, University of Tokyo, Japan. She completed her undergraduate studies at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2014 and obtained an M.Phil in Astrophysics from The University of Hong Kong in 2016. She received her PhD in Astrophysics at University of Munich and Max-Planck Institute for Physics, Germany, in 2023. She has been a member of the MAGIC collaboration since 2017, at the beginning of her PhD and later joined the CTAO project. Her research focuses on imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes and cosmic rays and gamma rays.
