报告摘要/Abstract:

Gaia, a cornerstone mission of the European Space Agency (ESA), delivered its early third release (Gaia eDR3) on Dec. 3, 2020. Gaia eDR3 provides precise positions, proper motions, parallaxes, and colors for more than 1.5 billion stars in the Milky Way. These observations provide information vital towards the large-volume to search for wide binaries which we are performing.

It has long been recognized that wide binaries are powerful tracers of the Galactic gravitational potential on small scales as well as useful towards constraining models of many different complex star formation processes. We recently compiled a catalog of more than 800 thousand wide binary candidates from Gaia DR2. With this sample, we carried out several scientific applications: 1) The Separation Distribution of Ultra-Wide Binaries across Galactic Populations; 2) Discovery of an equal-mass “twin” binary population reaching 1000+ AU separations; 3) Precise ages of field stars from dwarf companions; 4) Precise metallicity determination of M-dwarf stars.

In this talk, I will overview these works in brief.


个人简介/Biography:

田海俊,杭州电子科技大学特聘教授,湖北省天文学会副理事长,美国约翰斯·霍普金斯大学(JHU)、德国马克思·普朗克天文所(MPIA)长期访问学者。近年研究兴趣主要包括:银河系结构与演化、宽距双星、大型自行星表构建等。主持国家自然基金五项,参与国家重点基金一项,先后获得湖北省杰出青年基金、中欧人才、三峡学者(第一层次)等人才项目的支持。发表学术论文40余篇,其中,太阳本动速度、GPS1自行星表、宽距双星等三项研究成果分别被天文和物理领域重要的年鉴性评论期刊《天文学和天体物理学年度评论》和《核与粒子科学年度评论》引述或亮点评述。2021年荣获湖北省自然科学奖二等奖(第一完成人)。
