Introduction:
This lecture introduced the field of high-energy and very-high-energy gamma-ray astronomy, focusing on the observational techniques and detector technologies used from the MeV to TeV energy range. The lecture compared space- and ground-based gamma-ray observatories and reviewed the major Galactic and extragalactic gamma-ray source populations. Recent results, including very-high-energy gamma-ray bursts, constraints on the extragalactic background light, and multi-messenger observations, were presented to illustrate current developments in the field.
Speaker Biography:
Daniela Hadasch received her PhD in Physics from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, in 2013. Since 2025, she has served as a staff scientist at the Institute of Space Sciences, Spain. Her primary research focus on TeV observational astrophysics, with a particular emphasis on the non-thermal emission of Galactic and extragalactic gamma-ray sources. She investigates these objects across both high-energy (HE, E>100 MeV) gamma-ray bands using satellite instruments and very-high-energy (VHE, E>100 GeV) gamma-ray bands with imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes (IACTs).
