Abstract: The Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein (MSW) effect is of great importance in solar, atmospheric, and accelerator neutrino oscillation. In this talk, we will first give an introduction to the MSW effect in the Standard Model, and then discuss how new physics such as neutrino-matter interactions mediated by light or ultralight bosons can modify the MSW effect substantially. Using semi-classic field equations, we illustrate the variation of the effective potential from Wolfenstein, to Yukawa, and eventually to Coulomb potentials when the mediator mass decreases. Talk based on 1909.07505.
