          ——光电子能谱实验研究能够回答的问题

我们所接触的物质世界在宏观上体现出丰富多彩的电学、磁学、热力学及光学特性,探索和理解这些特性产生的根源则是人类孜孜不倦予以追求的目标。我们所知道的是所有构成物质世界的元素具有不同名称,但它们却是由相同的基本粒子电子作为介质将这些元素聚合到一起的。光电子能谱实验就是研究这些电子行为最为直接、也是最为有效的一种方法。

虽然每一种元素处于单独状态时的电子结构已很清楚,但两种或两种以上的元素聚集到一起时,它们所表现出的不同宏观特性正是各自体系内部电子之间不同相互作用的真实反映。这里举一个例子,单质元素或其合金的超导性(~20K20K以下)在上世纪初即被发现,其超导机制也就是电子之间的相互作用机理的理论解释则在50年后实现。在上世纪80年代发现统称为强关联体系的陶瓷材料具有高温超导特性其居里温度最高到160K。在这个新型宏观电学特性面前,已经建立起来的理论体系失效亦即不清楚电子之间什么样的相互作用导致在如此高的温度下形成Cooper电子对,新的理论到现在还没有出现。现象与其根源之间存在的鸿沟需要有大量的实验数据牵线搭桥。光电子能谱实验研究正是发挥其在理解电子之间相互作用机理独特作用的有效方法之一。

 

一、简介

光电子能谱原理图

   光子入射到固体表面激发出光电子,利用能量分析器对光电子进行分析的实验技术称为光电子能谱,基本关系式为:Ek=hν-Eb-φ。同步辐射光电子能谱以单色化的同步光作为激发光源,是研究材料表面和界面电子及原子结构的最重要手段之一。其主要特点是:

1、 由于光源的光子能量可以连续改变,将光电子能谱的研究对象拓展到包括占有态和空态两者;

2、通过测得的光电子能谱谱峰随光子能量和/或光电子发射角的变化,可以推知被测样品中电子的能量状态在波矢空间中特定方向上的变化特征,即能带的色散。

 

二、研究范围

· 材料的清洁表面及吸附表面的电子结构包括芯能级及价带研究。

· 有序表面及界面电子态研究。

 

三、研究方法和发展方向 

(一)、研究方法:

1)实验手段:

l     同步辐射角积分光电子能谱(SRPES)、同步辐射角分辨光电子能谱(ARPES);

l     高能电子衍射(RHEED)、低能电子衍射(LEED)、常规X射线光电子能谱(XPS)等常规测量手段;

l     氩离子轰击、电子束退火、低温冷却、气体吸附等样品处理手段;

2实验模式:

 由于光子能量的连续可调性,同步辐射光电子能谱(SRPES)实验可以在几种模式下进行:

  1) EDC模式:光子能量固定的能量分布曲线(Energy Distribution Curves)实验,即以一定能量的光子做激发源,测定样品表面导带和价带的电子能态分布。

  2) CFS模式:固定终态谱(Constant Final-state Spectra)实验,即用光子能量扫描而恒定检测某一终态动能的光电子谱,可以用来测量界面形成过程中的表面能带结构和能带弯曲。

  3) CIS模式:固定初态谱(Constant Initial-state Spectra)实验,即选择并固定使芯能级到空表面态跃迁最强的初态能量,将光子能量和检测光电子的动能做同步扫描来研究空表面态。

金属(包括合金)、氧化物、半导体的表面和界面电子结构;

C60、纳米碳管等新型材料与其衍生物的表面电子结构;

材料表面成分及结构研究;

薄膜功能材料的表面电子结构研究;

高温超导材料的表面电子结构;

 

四、光源参数

 BEPCII下同步辐射专用光、兼用光与改造前专用光4B9B光束线接收光强比较。

七、     实验站主要设备

1. 测量设备

·  角积分能量分析器(VSW HA150

·  角分辨电子能量分析器(VSW HA54)

·  低能电子衍射仪(LEED

·  俄歇电子谱仪(AES

·  反射高能电子衍射仪(RHEED

·  残余气体分析仪

2. 样品制备及处理

·  氩离子轰击制备清洁表面

·  300K 1000 K进行样品加热

·  用激光分子束外延(LMBE)方法生长氧化物及难熔材料

·  多种气体管路及微调阀用于制备吸收表面

·  分析室样品架可低温(150K)测试

· 配有刮削器可用于超高真空室清洁无序表面的制备

3. 样品传送:由于上述过程均在超高真空条件下完成,样品必须经快速进样室送入预备室预抽后,进而进入预备室、分析室、分子束外延室或激光分子束外延室中传递。

4. 控制:以下所列均由一台个人计算机控制

·  实验采集数据

·  球面光栅的切换和转动:用于选择光子能量及用于CFS, CIS 实验的光子能量扫描

·  前置镜的姿态调节

5. 真空系统:分为分析室,制备室和外延生长室。系统真空好于8×1010Torr
